(Krungthep) The nations capitol, with 12 miljon inhabitants (inkluding the suburbs). A large and very busy city with a lot of action going on, the city that never sleeps, is what they call it. This is not a dive destination, but good for shopping, touring and more.
Bangkok has become a stop to the rest of Asia, from here you can take a train, bus, or a flight to alot of destinations.

Where to shop?
If you go to Siamsquare you will have within walking distance; MBK (shopping mall with a little bit of everything), Siam Discovery (A little bit nicer shopping mall with modern shops), Siam Paragon (top modern, with the latest in fashion and much more and even a aquarium in the basement), Central World (Large modern shopping mall with different shops) and also alot of small shops in the neighburhood.
Another big attraction is the Weekendmarket (J J Market), which is only opened on Saturday and Sundays exept a new small part that now opens everyday. When you go there you need to have patience, because it´s croweded and hot.

Things to see?
The city have many Temples and Palaces;
Grand Palace: Palaces with european design that is only used for cermonies, the king is no longer living there.
Wat Phra Kaew: one of the most important temples in Thailand. Is located together with the palace, so when you enter you need to have a shirt with long sleeves and long pants. If you don´t have, you can borrow near by.
Wat Traimit: Golden Buddha temple most famous for the three meter high buddhastatue made of 5,5 ton solid gold.
Wat Benchamabophit: The Marmortemple is a fantastic example of modern Thai religious architecture. |
